Summary:
We are currently hiring a Head of Global R&D and Innovation Management to develop and implement Pendotech’s global innovation strategy while providing direction and leadership for R&D projects and implementing Pendotech’s compliance process.
This key position requires a goal-oriented, innovative thinker with in-depth knowledge of Mettler Toledo’s PLM and JetStream process and ADDP R&D tool chain, agile / SAFe agile product development methods and proficiency with compliance processes and regulations. It is critical to understand and know Mettler Toledo’s global R&D network within different units.
The Head of Global R&D and Innovation Management will be a key member of the Pendotech senior leadership team and participate in the annual strategy development and will work closely with Product Management to ensure alignment with product strategy and roadmap.
This position will directly lead a team of product developers / engineers and a project manager in our site at Princeton, NJ and have dotted line responsibility for teams in our sites in China and India.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Lead Pendotech’s Innovation program “Genesis” enabling a structured ideation, portfolio management and technology platforming process. “Genesis” is the framework which enables Pendotech to develop technology platforms and ultimately product portfolios aligned with market and customer trends.
• Prioritize projects and resources in collaboration with Head of Marketing, Product Managers and General Manager
• Strengthen the collaboration with key R&D partners within the PRO Division and other units (e.g., IMSG India). Develop cadence and review process to enable regular communication, progress tracking, and alignment of R&D activities across global teams, ensuring effective coordination and synergy in innovation efforts.
• Deploy and drive Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) agile product development methodology. As Pendotech’s products are used in a highly dynamic segment within Biopharma with a high Vitality index, a key-to-success is fast time to market and the ability to adopt quickly to customer demand.
• A critical step is the emphasis on using the global PLM toolchain Application Development and Deployment Platform (ADDP) and on ensuring strong alignment with the PLM process as described in Mettler Toledo’s guidelines.
• Lead a global team of engineers of different technical backgrounds and project management across different sites with a clear vision of faster project conversion and productivity. Ensure that the Pendotech R&D team is well connected to the Divisional and Group R&D network and we achieve a higher integration in innovation processes, knowledge sharing, and resource optimization across all locations.
• Leverage Mettler Toledo’s JetStream and Voice of the Customer (VOC) processes to ensure ongoing inputs for customer demand and fueling new innovation ideas as part of “Genesis”
• Oversee Pendotech’s compliance process to ensure existing and new products are qualified and tested according to all relevant regulations and standards. Deploy Group compliance tools and integrate compliance in R&D processes.
• Develop a compliance assessment dashboard and regularly review the product portfolio against relevant regulations and standards to promptly initiate necessary testing and requalification.
• Oversee the quality management of Pendotech with high focus on establishing a more focus on compliance and quality assurance. Ensure that our quality management system is continuously improved, and we are maintaining ISO9001 compliance.
• Develop department yearly budget and monitor spending against budget allocation and department goals anticipating project timeline and phase as well as compliance test requirements.
• Assure that Pendotech’s R&D laboratory is well managed and meets highest levels of safety, quality standards, and regulatory compliance to support efficient and reliable research and development activities. Lead Pendotech’s Intellectual Property (IP) efforts by working with internal and external IP counsels. Maintain and defend existing patents and trademarks, proactively identify new areas for IP development and protection, and ensure Freedom to Operate by assessing potential IP risks and managing IP strategy to support innovation and competitive advantage.
• Collaborate with global production units to support and maintain line activities throughout the active product life cycle, ensuring smooth production operations and timely resolution of technical issues related to R&D-developed products.
• Work closely with production units on the industrialization of new products, ensuring effective transfer from R&D to manufacturing and successful scale-up for commercial production.
What You Need to Succeed
• A master’s or bachelor's degree from a four-year university in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering ideally with focus on Signal or Measurement technologies
• High level of experience in managing global engineering and product development activities
• Minimum 5 years of experience as an employee in a role with deep understanding of the internal R&D processes and proficiency with PLM tools was developed
• Experience with R&D projects involving Software development
• Successfully completing and delivering several new product developments with high business impact
• Experience in management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong business acumen and the ability to create and maintain spread sheets, databases, and data displays.
• Good understanding of quality management processes including quality assurance, compliance and quality management system.
